Product Description

Creating up to 1-1/2 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home takes only about 20 minutes with this electric appliance, and salt and ice are not needed. After the machine's chilling chamber has been in the freezer for about eight hours the liquid between its walls is thoroughly frozen. The chamber then goes atop the power base, the unit's paddle goes into the chamber, the transparent top is locked in place, and the machine is turned on. Ingredients go into the chamber through an opening in the top as the paddle turns. The chamber chills the ingredients to whatever consistency is desired--though dense treats are hard to make because the paddle churns in air. Chocolate chips, chopped fruit, nuts, and other special ingredients can be added toward the end. The chamber is nonstick for easy cleanup. Storing it in the freezer ensures a frozen confection is only 20 to 40 minutes away when the mood strikes. The machine measures 10 inches in diameter and 15 inches high and weighs 9-1/2 pounds. --Fred Brack

5Awesome Ice Cream Maker - So much better than Hamilton Beach
By Funone2009
I love this ice cream maker. I bought this unit after returning the Hamilton Beach 68320 1-1/2-Quart Capacity Ice Cream Maker. The Cuisinart makes much better and more volume of ice cream. The motor is strong and quiet and the design of the unit is fantastic. It turns the frozen bowl rather than the blades, thus keeping the frozen bowl frozen longer. The ice cream is a nice soft server consistency and freezes up much better once stored in air tight plastic containers. This unit is very affordable and only a little more money than the Hamilton Beach and you will be much happier with your purchase. A great bargain for a superior ice cream maker. Enjoy!

4ice cream at home
By icecreamserious
I bought the previous incarnation of this product, which has some cosmetic differences but I think is essentially the same.
I was skeptical of what you might produce at home, but its reasonable price made me decide to try it for the fun factor. We learned with experimenting that you really MUST keep the container solidly frozen in the freezer prior to making a batch for best results, and that low fat versions are not its forte'(although we haven't tried any bulking agents added). We got excellent results using half and half instead of cream, and it does produce something with a soft serve consistency relatively quickly- in twenty minutes or less! For a more solid ice cream the results must go into the freezer for awhile. It's also nice that a very simple recipe is sufficient-just half and half, sugar, and vanilla is all you need to start, then you can build from there. The unit is pretty loud (like a blender but lower pitch) but then, it doesn't have to run that long, and you can walk away and come back and check on it. Everyone in the family thinks it's cool(ha!). I like the red version, but it comes in at least one other color.

5YUM!
By K H McDonough
Santa left this ice cream maker as a family gift this year and it rocks! In celebration of Christmas, we made the peppermint recipe that is included in the booklet with the maker. My husband had reservations about this flavor, but after tasting it, he agrees it is great! Next on our list will be vanilla bean (my favorite). As other reviews note, it takes a while for the freezer bowl to chill (between 6-18 hrs). To make sure it was cold enough we left it in our deep freezer overnight. I think all of the ice cream recipes call for using both heavy cream and whole milk, but we used half & half instead and it came out fine. After 25 mins mixing in the freezer bowl the consistency was very loose. It remained soft even after sitting another hour or so in the freezer, but after a longer stint overnight it was more like what you'd find in the commercial brands.

I'm very pleased with this product and my daughter feels it makes the BEST ice cream she's ever had (an d she should know, she's eaten a LOT of it). With ice cream prices running 6 dollars for a half gallon in the grocery stores plus having the ability to create whatever flavor you want, I would highly recommend this product.
